Team responsibilities

As responsibilities in this self-steering company are distributed to teams build around a product/service, the processes are laid out.

Finding a new team member

What is the team looking for?

  1. Extending the core team long term?
  2. Extra help on non-core functionality?

Track applications through Odoo HR | Recruitment.

Extending core team

The workload for the current team can’t be increased much more. No decline in workload is anticipated in the coming year.

Always decide with the team if a Dutch-speaking candidate is a hard requirement.

In no hurry

  1. Find a graduate student.

Only recruit students in their last year that are open to permanent position afterwards. Only then, the time investment from the core team is justifiable. Add a vacancy to the website, promote it through University portals.

In a hurry

  1. Start recruiting for a position.

Add a vacancy to the website, promote it through the following networks: employees, LinkedIn, Stack Overflow. This will probably take some time to find the right candidate.

  2. Get freelancers or outsource.

If code needs to be written right away, look for freelancers or outsource to development companies. Core team developers should be in the lead of architectural choices because long term maintenance is their long term responsibility. Decrease dependency on these people once people on our own team can take over.

Extra help on non-core functionality

  1. Find a student.

A 3rd or 4th year student is fine when time investment can be limited and non-core implies it’s a standalone/prototype where less strict code quality has to be enforced.

Welcoming a new team member

A new employee should be welcomed, guided and get all required accounts setup by the team in which the member starts.

  1. Make sure person has plenty of coffee.
  2. Make them self-sufficient by providing an office tour (kitchen, toilet, meeting rooms).
  3. Find an appropriate desk. Make sure the basic hardware is provided (external monitors, keyboard, mouse).
  4. Finalize intern/employee contracts when needed.
  5. Help the new user connect to the Wi-Fi, login to their d-centralize account, and give them the link to this handbook.
  6. Sign a key contract (NL) or key contract (EN) and hand out the office key and token.
  7. Ask an admin to set up the needed accounts as described in the Admin workflow.
  8. Add user to the collaborative shopping list on Google Keep.
